Video Producer

Role overview

We're looking for a Video Producer to grow Expo's video presence across all relevant platforms and to help us tell important stories about our users and our products. This is a full-stack video role: you'll ideate, script, shoot, edit, and publish. You won't be handing briefs to an agency or waiting for someone else to animate your storyboard. You'll own the entire process, from "what should we make?" to "it's live and performing."

The right person for this role understands that a YouTube deep-dive, a LinkedIn clip, a Twitter/X hook, and a TikTok tutorial are fundamentally different formats that require different thinking, not just different aspect ratios. You know what works on each platform because you've made things that worked on each platform.

Expo is used by millions of developers to build mobile apps. Our audience is technical, skeptical of fluff, and hungry for content that actually teaches them something or shows them something real. The videos you make will reach developers all over the world at companies like Coinbase, SpaceX, and Sweetgreen, as well as indie builders shipping their first app.

We're a remote-friendly, ~50-person Series A startup. The marketing team is small, fast, creative, and high-output. You'll have real creative freedom, collaborative support, and real accountability for results.

What you'll do

  • Own the full video lifecycle: Conceive ideas (with help), write scripts or outlines, shoot or screen-record, edit, add motion graphics where needed, and publish across platforms. No one is going to do a step for you.
  • Strengthen a YouTube channel that developers actually subscribe to: Tutorials, product walkthroughs, developer stories, technical deep-dives, and launch videos. Plan a content calendar and execute against it consistently.
  • Create platform-native short-form content: Clips for Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. You understand that repurposing is not just cropping a 16:9 video to 9:16. Each platform has its own pacing, hooks, and audience expectations.
  • Produce launch and announcement videos: When we ship a new SDK, a new service, or a major product like Expo Agent, you'll create the video assets that make the launch land.
  • Capture developer stories: Interview Expo users, record conference talks, and produce case study content that shows real teams solving real problems.
  • Experiment and iterate: Track performance (views, watch time, engagement, click-through) across platforms. Double down on what works. Kill what doesn't. Propose new formats.
  • Collaborate with engineering and DevRel: Work with Expo's engineers and developer advocates to translate complex technical concepts into clear, watchable content.

Qualities that make you a good fit

  • You have a portfolio of video work you produced end-to-end. We want to see things you ideated, shot, edited, and shipped yourself.
  • You're fluent in modern editing tools (Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar) and comfortable with motion graphics (After Effects, Motion, or similar).
  • You have strong taste. You can look at a rough cut and know what's boring, what's too long, where the energy drops, and how to fix it.
  • You understand platform dynamics. You can articulate why a video works on YouTube but would flop on LinkedIn, and vice versa. You follow platform trends without chasing them blindly.
  • You can work with technical subject matter. You don't need to be a developer, but you need to be able to learn enough about what Expo does to produce content that a developer audience respects.
  • You're self-directed and prolific. You don't wait for assignments. You pitch ideas, manage your own schedule, and ship consistently.
  • You're comfortable on camera or behind it (ideally both). Some content may feature you; most will feature Expo team members or community developers.
  • You have experience growing a channel or audience through video. Show us the numbers.

Bonus points

  • Experience producing content for a developer tools or B2B SaaS audience
  • Familiarity with React Native, mobile development, or the broader JavaScript ecosystem
  • Experience with screen recording and code-focused video production (terminal recordings, IDE walkthroughs, demo videos)
  • Photography or design skills that extend your creative range
  • Experience with podcasting or audio production

GTM principles

Our go-to-market approach is guided by a few key principles that we live by:

  • Land with the developer, expand with the executive: Start by winning developer trust, then extend adoption to the enterprise.
  • Master the product, champion the customer: In PLG, the best marketing is showing real product value and helping users succeed.
  • Feedback drives strategy: Customer insights and developer sentiment guide our positioning and product decisions.
  • Consistency wins: Nailing the fundamentals of messaging and execution beats flashiness every time.
  • Every touchpoint matters: From docs to pitch decks to social posts, every interaction with Expo should reinforce trust and value.

Why work at Expo

Every day, millions of people use apps made with Expo — from public health apps to food delivery apps to dating apps to bitcoin wallets. Great organizations like Brex, Coinbase, Flexport, RBI, SpaceX, and Sweetgreen trust Expo to help them build top-notch application software in record time. When we make improvements to the Expo libraries and tools, hundreds of thousands of developers benefit and build better software faster for millions of their users.

Everyone on the Expo team works on something important because we have a small team and we do a lot of things. We strive to create an environment where everyone is set up to do their best work. Each person on the team has a lot of flexibility and autonomy to work the way that works the best for them.

Perks and benefits

We offer competitive compensation and a supportive environment to help you do your best work:

  • Compensation: Competitive salary + equity package.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive healthcare benefits (medical, dental, vision) - U.S. only.
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with company matching - U.S. only.
  • Equipment budget: $6,000 to set up your ideal work setup (laptop, monitor, etc.).
  • Flexible schedule: We care about outcomes, not 9-to-5 hours. Adjust your work schedule to when you’re most productive.

  • Parental leave: 12-week fully paid parental leave for all new parents.

  • Community & Growth: Opportunities to speak at conferences, represent Expo at industry events, and attend regional meetups with the team.
