Role
This role makes every message a developer gets from Expo count: the right message, at the right moment, in the right channel. You own the full lifecycle, from lead nurture through onboarding, activation, plan upgrade, expansion, and retention for both self serve and enterprise B2B funnels. You treat the lifecycle as your product. You define its goals and key moments, write the content for each stage, run the automation in HubSpot, and measure what moves people forward. You hold yourself accountable to engagement, conversion, and retention outcomes, not content output.
What you’ll do
Lifecycle Strategy and Execution
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle strategy across lead nurture, onboarding, activation, upgrade, expansion, and retention
- Define lifecycle goals, key moments, and success metrics with Growth Marketing, Growth Product, and Product Marketing
- Build frameworks for each lifecycle stage and audience, from solo developers to enterprise engineering teams
- Test, iterate, and optimize journeys based on performance data and customer insight
Email and In-Product Content
- Write and own lifecycle email journeys: audience segmentation, personalization, behavior-based triggers, and multi-step sequencing
- Own the automation end to end in HubSpot: build, QA, launch, and optimize journeys yourself
- Test copy, subject lines, imagery, and calls to action to improve engagement and conversion
- Keep every program compliant with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and CCPA as applicable
- Partner with Growth Product and Product Marketing on in-product and customer education content
- Keep lifecycle content consistent, on-brand, and useful to developers
Measurement and Optimization
- Define lifecycle KPIs for engagement, conversion, upgrade, and retention with Growth Marketing, Growth Product, and Revenue Ops
- Analyze performance across lifecycle and content programs to find what to fix and what to scale
- Use quantitative data and qualitative feedback to refine messaging, sequencing, and formats
- Share insights and learnings with cross-functional partners
Agentic Workflows
- Use AI and agentic tools to compress the time from insight to shipped journey, and to build repeatable workflows for the team
What you’ll bring
- Lifecycle expertise: 4–7+ years in lifecycle, email, content, or growth marketing, with hands-on experience building personalized, segmented email journeys and automated programs at scale.
- Strategic storytelling: Exceptional writing skills and the ability to translate technical products into clear, audience-specific messaging that drives engagement and business outcomes.
- Growth mindset: A data-driven approach to funnels, engagement, and conversion, with a focus on measurable impact over content for content’s sake.
- Hands-on execution: Experience with marketing automation platforms (HubSpot preferred), lifecycle triggers, email privacy and consent regulations, and using AI tools to work more efficiently.
- Ownership and collaboration: Strong project management skills, a bias for action, and the ability to build from scratch, navigate ambiguity, and partner cross-functionally to deliver high-quality programs on time.
- Startup and developer experience: Experience in high-growth B2B SaaS or developer tools (Series B–C preferred). Familiarity with developer audiences and product-led growth is a plus.
How we work and why Expo
- Small team, real ownership. Everyone at Expo works on something important because the team is small and does a lot. The go-to-market team is small and fast, and you will own your work end to end.
- Everyone is a builder. We expect you to use AI tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to speed up your own work and the team's, including wiring up APIs and small workflows yourself.
- Our values: build developer trust, ship and improve, flexible primitives, and make it work.
- Our GTM principles: land with the developer and expand with the executive, master the product and champion the customer, let feedback drive strategy, nail the fundamentals, and treat every touchpoint (docs, decks, posts) as a chance to earn trust.
- Reach. Millions of people use apps made with Expo every day, and when we improve Expo, hundreds of thousands of developers benefit.
- Remote-friendly and flexible. We are a distributed team that works mostly during North American hours. We care about outcomes, not 9-to-5 hours.
